Which vehicles are guaranteed not to be salvage when registering them?

Due to NMVTIS regulations, we cannot guarantee that a vehicle with a clean title, such as “Title FL CERTIFICATE OF TITLE (CLEAN) (P) PENDING FOR 30 DAYS,” won’t be reclassified as salvage upon ownership transfer. The DMV often makes decisions based on any reported salvage history. We recommend conducting a Carfax or AutoCheck report prior to purchase; however, this doesn’t completely guarantee against reclassification by your DMV. While rare, such instances have occurred with some of our customers.

Additionally, you might consider exploring our selection of used vehicles for sale and auction. These listings will clearly state “CLEAN TITLE” for vehicles not classified as salvage, providing greater assurance for your purchase decision.

What does this mean: CERTIFICATE OF TITLE (CLEAN) may become SALVAGE upon ownership transfer as per NMVTIS regulation?

This indicates that while the title is currently clean, it could be reclassified as salvage due to NMVTIS regulations. For instance, when you present the document at your DMV, they may designate it as salvage based on the vehicle’s history.

All clean titles, you should be able to register them with no problems. Please do keep in mind, any vehicle sold through a salvage auction may become salvage due to NMVTIS law (in which case you would have to go through a local reconstruction process to obtain a rebuilt/reconstructed title). This happens extremely rarely, but can happen. Read more

What is NMVTIS (National Motor Vehicle Title Information System)?

NMVTIS is National Motor Vehicle Title Information System implemented by US Department of Justice. The NMVTIS is designed to protect consumers from fraud and unsafe vehicles and to keep stolen vehicles from being resold. NMVTIS is also a tool that assists states and law enforcement in deterring and preventing title fraud and other crimes.

All states DMV`s report the data to NMVTIS and check against NMVTIS database every time the title is transferred. DMV`s have the right to deem any title branded according to the records in the NMVTIS database.

All Clean title vehicles sold through salvage auctions have a chance of the title becoming salvage when processed by DMV. Please refer to http://www.vehiclehistory.gov for details.
