How can I be sure if a car runs and drives?

All vehicles are sold ‘as-is,’ with auction verification indicating whether the vehicle was able to start. However, this does not guarantee the vehicle’s running condition. For a clearer understanding of what ‘Auction Verification‘ entails and what ‘Runs and drives‘ or ‘Engine Start‘ truly means, we invite you to read our detailed guide. When i buy a car that says “Damage type: Water Flood”, does it mean that i can not fix it? Do most of the customers that get those kind of cars are able to fix them or they just use them for Parts?

Water/Flood vehicles can be fixed. Please be very aware that depending on extend of the water damage/water level in the vehicle, parts such as engine, electrical etc may be severely damaged. Most of the flood vehicles would not sell as “Run and Drive” just to prevent engine from starting in the case it may have water in it. Read more

Can I drive a salvage vehicle home?

No, it is not legally permissible to drive a salvage vehicle on public roads until it has undergone the necessary “reconstruction” process. Generally, the vehicle must be towed to your preferred location. Following that, the vehicle needs to undergo a “reconstruction” process according to the guidelines set by your state. Only after the completion of this process can you register and insure the vehicle for road use.

What does ‘Auction Verification’ mean, specifically ‘Runs & Drives’ or ‘Engine Start’?

At times, Insurance Auction staff may confirm a vehicle’s ‘Engine Start‘ ability and ‘Run and Drive‘ status upon intake at their facility. This process typically involves attempting to start the vehicle—with or without external aids like jump-starts or booster boxes—and checking if it can move forward under its own power. However, there is no assurance that the vehicle will be roadworthy or function similarly when retrieved by the buyer.

Please note, that RideSafely does not conduct these verifications and is unaware of the specific methods used by the Insurance Auction staff, such as whether booster boxes or wire splicing was necessary. Consequently, we cannot guarantee the engine’s performance or the vehicle’s drivability.

RideSafely is not liable for the outcome of these verifications, the vehicle’s operational quality, or any subsequent issues. If ‘Auction Verification‘ is not listed for a vehicle, such information was not provided.

Does the vehicle start?

Many vehicles on our site are housed at Insurance Auction locations and are not available for inspection or testing. As such, we often cannot confirm whether an item is operational. However, when the Insurance Auction provides running status, we ensure this detail is included in our listings.
