What does it mean when a title is labeled as a Salvage Certificate?

Depending on the state, a vehicle may be issued a “Salvage Title” or a “Salvage Certificate.” Both documents indicate that an insurance company has classified the vehicle as “salvaged” due to significant damage or loss. A Salvage Certificate differs from a Salvage Title; it generally denotes that the vehicle is not currently registered and cannot be driven. Additionally, any vehicle with a salvage certificate requires an enhanced inspection to obtain a title for road use under state regulations.
