What does “MD Salvage – Greater Than 75% Repairable” mean?

In Maryland, insurance companies must report all owner-retained vehicles with damage exceeding 75% of their fair market value if they are deemed repairable or have sustained collision or flood damage, regardless of the vehicle’s age. A vehicle is considered salvage in Maryland if the cost to repair it exceeds 75% of its fair market value before the damage. However, it can still be repaired and registered if it passes a Maryland State Safety Inspection.

Understanding the MD Salvage – Greater Than 75% Repairable Title

  • If a vehicle is damaged beyond 75% of its value but is still repairable, or if it has flood damage, it will receive a Maryland salvage title labeled “MD Salvage – Greater Than 75% Repairable.”
  • To maintain registration, the vehicle must pass a Maryland State Safety Inspection within 90 days of notification from the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA), or the registration will be suspended.

Steps to Rebuild and Register the Vehicle

  1. After completing all repairs, keep all receipts for the replaced vehicle parts.
  2. Take the vehicle to an authorized Maryland Inspection Station for a safety inspection.
  3. Obtain a Certificate of Inspection and submit it to the MVA.
  4. Upon approval, the MVA will issue a corrected title with the notation “Rebuilt Salvage.”
