What is a “reconstructed title” or “rebuilt title”?
A reconstructed title—also known as a rebuilt title—is assigned to vehicles that were once deemed total losses and subsequently issued salvage titles. These vehicles have undergone extensive repairs and have been restored to a condition that meets road safety standards.
Process of Reconstructing a Vehicle:
- Salvage and Recovery: When a vehicle suffers significant damage from an accident, it may be salvaged by the insurance company.
- Repairs and Restoration: The vehicle must be thoroughly repaired to meet strict safety and functionality standards.
- Inspection and Certification: After repairs, an authorized mechanic inspects the vehicle. If it conforms to the manufacturer’s specifications, it is certified by the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
- Title Reissue: The DMV then issues a reconstructed title. This title allows the vehicle to be registered and insured similarly to one with a clean title.
Important Consideration: Please be aware that RideSafely cannot guarantee the ability to reconstruct titles in every state or country. For specific inquiries regarding title reconstruction, we recommend contacting your local DMV directly.
