Electric car, Tesla Model 3

A First Look at the Tesla Model 3

On July 8, 2017, Elon Musk, the co-founder of Tesla Motors Inc., tweeted the first photos of the Tesla Model 3. This will be Tesla’s first mass-produced car. The company is famous for their fast, sleek automobiles that made electric cars cool.

The Tesla Roadster first hit the roads in 2008. It was a fast sports car at a time when electric car meant glorified golf cart. The Roadster was followed by the introduction of the Model S and Model X. Extended battery ranges made these cars practical as well as stylish. With each new release sales grew, but the hefty price tag kept owning a Tesla out of reach for most people.

When the Model 3 was announced, everything changed. The car is expected to be priced at around $35,000, putting it in a price range that will give its traditional gas-powered competitors a run for their money. The car has been hotly anticipated since the initial announcement back in March of 2016.

The day electric car fans have been waiting for is finally here. The first Model 3 cars are expected to be released on July 28th of this year. Since we don’t know a lot about the final rollout of the car just yet, let’s look at what we do know from the initial announcement.

The Tesla Model 3 is a premium sedan that seats five adults. Being affordable doesn’t mean that the makers have skimped on power or style. The Model 3 goes from 0 to 60 in 6 seconds. Its battery gets an impressive 215 miles on a charge. It comes with autopilot hardware that is standard with all Tesla cars. Autopilot allows the car to drive itself using an array of cameras and sensors.

More than 300,000 people have put down the $1,000 down payment required to reserve their very own Model 3. Musk says that the first 30 cars will be delivered to customers at the end of July with more cars coming off the line every month. He has promised that customers will get their cars before the end of 2018. That’s a long time, but it looks like the Model 3 will be worth the wait.
