Which vehicles are not considered salvage at registration?
While a vehicle may display a “Clean Title” designation, this does not always guarantee it will retain that status upon registration in your state.
Important Considerations
Due to NMVTIS (National Motor Vehicle Title Information System) regulations, certain clean title vehicles—such as:
- “FL Certificate of Title (Clean)”
- or “CA Certificate of Title (Clean)”
—may still be reclassified as salvage by your local DMV upon title transfer. This typically occurs when the DMV identifies a prior salvage history reported in national databases.
What You Can Do
- We recommend obtaining a Carfax or AutoCheck vehicle history report before purchasing. These reports may reveal past salvage activity.
- However, neither service guarantees immunity from DMV reclassification decisions, as some states may apply different thresholds or regulations based on NMVTIS records.
While reclassification is rare, it has occurred in isolated cases involving RideSafely customers.
